Everyone can set goals. The difference between those who set goals and those who achieve goals is having a plan AND having a dream. Goal setting should push you out of your comfort zone.
We have all heard that the best way to achieve a goal is to write it down, maybe even tell other people about it. However, if that’s all you’re doing, your chances of achieving that goal drop drastically.
Have you ever heard of having S.M.A.R.T. goals? If you’re not totally familiar it stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Driven.
Goal setting can be so much more. Often time when people are doing so they make some very common mistakes. For instance, the goal doesn’t stretch the imagination or require new skill sets to be achieved.
“If you’re going to dream, and we all do, why not dream big? After all, if your dreams are very ordinary, your life will be very ordinary. So picture yourself in the home of your dreams, driving the car of your dreams, visiting other parts of the world, working at something you enjoy, having great success, or enjoying time with your family. “
In failing to recognize the importance of doing things that are outside your comfort zone it’s easy to stick them in a drawer and never really care whether or not they are actually achieved. These goals do not motivate you.
Remember, with having a goal you don’t necessarily need to know exactly how you will accomplish it from the onset. Take your time. Think Big! And BE GR8!
